Sonnet Project

Objective: To write a sonnet and present it to the class.


  • Write a 14 line sonnet in one of the sonnet forms (Petrarchan or Shakespearean).
    • The sonnet must follow the rhyme scheme
    • Each section of the sonnet must form a complete idea.
    • If you are doing a Petrarchan sonnet then the octave must pose a problem or question that the sestet answers or resolves.
    • The topic must revolve around love, lust, unattainable love/lust, or nature.
  • Make a poster with your sonnet.
    • Type or hand write the sonnet in a creative and legible fashion and display it on your poster.
    • The poster can range in size from 8 ½ x 11 (computer paper) to 11 x 17 (construction paper)
    • Add illustrations to your poster that are appropriate for your topic.
  • Presentation

*Every student will need to show their poster and read their sonnet to the class.

Due Date: Thursday, September 22nd (the presentations will only take place on this day, so

you must be in class or you will not get another chance.)

Grade: all of the sections will be combined for one grade.

  • Sonnet: 25
  • Poster: 10
  • Presentation: 5
  • Total: 40 points
